Damascus Steel Knife — ii

A$1,200.00

Damascus steel knife by Pete Mattila.

‘Tell me stories of transformation. Elements, geology, creation. Whisper words of happenings, deep-time and the emergence. Speak the recipes of slow-making and quality development. Moments of rapid change and the cooling of parts. Through hands, gesture and thought.’

Hand-forged from iron, carbon, silicon and manganese… a dash of nickel.

These blades are made from exactly that. We have transformed railway track into flat bar then fused with discarded bandsaw blades from a mill… layered, welded, repeat and forged to the shape of a tool, an extension of the hand. Hardened and tempered.

The timber handle is of spotted gum… burnt and polished.

All re-lived all re-configured and transmuted.

Presented in a custom box of burnt Tasmanian oak with Huon pine shavings.

Dimensions: Length of knife from blade tip to end of handle is approximately 330 mm. Blade is approximately 52 mm wide.

Box 375 mm L x 100 mm W x 50 mm H
